The Burning Queen Rani Padmavati - Anuja Chandramouli

I was offered this book for reading and reviewing by the author. With all the controversy surrounding the movie release this was a perfect book to pick up. This book is completely authors version of the Queen who met with a tragic end. I'll say authors version because it doesn't match with any of the accounts mentioned on wiki or any of the legendary tales available on net.

The book is a fast paced one making it an interesting read. Story doesn't drag at any point in the book which is the best aspect. The language goes on to display the exceptional vocabulary of the author and her grasp on the language. Characters of Padmavati and Rawal Ratan Singh are beautifully developed and portrayed. Book is written from a third party perspective thereby giving you insights in the life of each of the characters.

The book doesn't focus much on feelings and emotions which could have made the book more empathetic for the readers, though the epilogue part gives you jitters with narration of the dungeons. Some scenes which were crucial were described in way of dialogues which should have been a narration of series of events. The book though failed to create an impact on me but I liked the storyline.

Overall a nice read. I would rate it 3.5/5
