Like others I had taken this book long time back but couldn't get time to read it. With Brunch book challenge I finally picked this book to read.
To start with the story line is very good and interesting. It does manage to keep you glued till the end. The book is very fast paced and doesn't drag anywhere which is one thing that I always like about Sudha Murthy's book.
The brief of the story is Mridula is a strong and an idealist woman and her husband who too is idealist initially but with time to become successful doesn't remain the same. It beautifully narrates the conflicts of the couple, the difference in unbringing of their only son and how Sanjay realises his mistake at the end.
Story ends on a happy note and that makes you feel happy. However, there are certain repititions in the book. When describing Mridula that she is different is mentioned thrice in the book. Also when story moves four years ahead Mridula is said to have become the principal of the school which is again mentioned when the story moves 14 years ahead.
There are some lose ends which were left untied for e.g. With whom was Alex having an affair with. No narration on it though it generated curiosity as to what actually happened.
Apart from that the story is a good read. I would rate this book as 3.5
