Indigo Selected Stories - Satyajit Ray

I have never got a chance to read any of the well renowned author Satyajit Ray's books so this time I selected a book on short stories penned by him. It's a compilation of 21 short stories. Book starts with a brief on the author and I must say it is very impressive. Seemed like I will have a great time reading the book.

First story is about a rendevous with carnivorous plant. A fabulously written story. Totally gluing. Second story is a supernatural thriller. Third story reminded me of the movie koi mil gaya. Fourth story again a supernatural thriller about a magician and his guru. Then came the story of a laughing dog. Next a meaningful story teaching job satisfaction and doing justice to even small work assigned to you.

The story Indigo is about a past life experience. A good story. Then came a beautifully written story of a lost memory. Next story of a doll which actually was a human!! Another really interesting story on person suffering from kleptomania. A story of a boy and an alien. Strange but interesting story though. A story of a strange bird andalgalornis and it's master. What a story!! Then a story of a man who becomes a snake after the curse from a sage in modern day. Simply wow!! Next a scary story of a haunted mansion and a person turning ghost!! Another one a cute story of friendship of ants and a little boy. Next a story of a crook posing as a time traveller. A forgettable story of a small boy and his teacher whom the boy thinks is a monster. Further a story telling one about his guilt conscience. Second last story on a Ventriloquist and black magic. Last one was a real cherry on the cake with a diary of a small kid during the work war II era.

All the stories are immensely gluing and some are nail-biting. One peculiar thing about this book is it doesn't have many female characters. Only in 2-3 stories are there a female character that too just supporting else all the stories revolve around male characters. The book doesn't deal with any relationship matters rather just strange instances which makes it a unique reading experience as not many people can write like this. Most of the authors only deal in relationships.

I immensely enjoyed the reading experience and will most certainly now search for more books penned by Satyajit Ray. As mentioned at the start I truely had a great time all the stories with each story. The stories are worth a read and you will be transported in a completely different world. The writing is soooooo good that you can actually feel it's happening right in front of your eyes. The description of each of the scenes is such clear.

A thumbs up to the genius Mr. Satyajit Ray. Totally recommended by me.
