Mahabharata - the biggest epic and the story of family ties, betrayal, war, relationships, righteousness and many more things. Till now I've read Mahabharata as it is, Mahabharata from Draupadi's eyes and both of them caught my interest. This book too is an immensely gripping tale. Kaunteyas denotes sons of Kunti and book is retelling of the epic Mahabharata from Kunti's view point.
This book was recommended to me by my friend and I am thankful for he did so. The book is sure to create a long lasting impact on its readers. It narrates the birth of Karna and Kunti's decision on parting with him. Book beautifully describes the heartache of Kunti when Pandu takes Madri as his second wife. It depicts how Pandu loved Madri more than he loved Kunti and Kunti's feelings when she realises it is simply brilliant.
I loved the part when Kunti tells Krishna that whatever happened with Draupadi was the worst thing that happened and it's Pandavas or Kaunteyas duty to avenge the ill treatment with their wife. Kunti giving back to Gandhari is worth an applaud. The book also touches on the aspect of changing relationship between her and Gandhari who's her sister in law. Book doesn't detail the Mahabharata war which is quite fair. The conversation between Kunti and Karna before the war is something that cannot be missed.
The book is a fast paced one and as mentioned earlier totally gripping tale. You won't be able to put this book away once you pick it up. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and if given an opportunity would like to read this again. Ofcourse I am also looking for a book where Mahabharata is narrated from Karna's view point. This book is equally awesome.
A gluing book I would call it. And yes a recommended read for the history lovers.
