The Scion of Ikshvaku - Amish

Though I never read Immortals of Meluha series but had read and great reviews about the same from my friends and hence I picked up this book at Crosswords. As the poster suggests it's retelling the story of Ramayana penned by Amish.

To Start with unlike Ramayana, Dashrath here considers Ram the reason he lost his war with Ravana coz Ram was born on the same day when Dashrath lost in the war. Further, Sumitra is the one who advises Shatrughan to always be with Bharat and Lakshman to be with Ram. A great game. Bharat is a womaniser here, Manthara is a Richie and has a daughter who ties Rakhis to all the brothers. One thing is constant in original Ramayana and here which is love of Lakshman for Ram.

In turn of events, Dashrath starts loving Ram. There is a gangrape of Roshni similar to 9/12 event and juvenile being main culprit escapes brutal punishment others of his gang gets due to law. First meeting of Ram and Sita is described in a very filmy manner. Except for Shabri all the characters of original Ramayana are there.

Sita's portrayal of a strong female is praiseworthy. The descriptions of action sequences is beautifully penned with everything coming live in front of your eyes. Pace of the book is also nice. Amish has not forgotten to mention his previous books offering of Meluha, Vayuputras and Nagas here too. I would call this book as Ramayana of Kalyug / modern times.

The end of this book reminded me the ending of the movie Bahubali part I. It's undoubtedly great book. Once you pick this book it's a bit difficult to put it back. And yes I am now eagerly awaiting his second book in the series. While made up my mind to read the Meluha series as well.
